Bizarre and New

Bizarre : this ad for Don Quixote Travelling Bakery.

New: Johnny Gun's posthumous EP (actually finished in 2004, but NEW on the web!), plus my/his Don Caballero tribute track, on trev's website.

2 Down, X To Go

So tomorrow is the last day of my second contracted year here in Ako. Although I have another year, it really seems like time is ticking away and I want to get a lot done here while I have the chance. On the other hand, I'm also looking forward to spending some time back in Perth and not having to pay 10 bucks for half a steak. Got some trips to Okinawa / Korea / Mongolia / Peru lined up and in planning, too. Especially for Mongolia, let it be known, hear ye hear ye, that I am looking for some folk crazy enough to brave the frozen plains next January or April.

On the other (third) hand, general laziness has a large effect on day-to-day affairs. Hopefully I can get some music done over the summer holidays. It might even be time to turn on the air conditioner soon - I can only dodge the sweat-induced sparks shooting from my keyboard for so long. Dan is the only person to have used the air-con in the last eight months; I would have thought living in an un-air-conditioned, no-hot-water apartment, you would have adapted to extreme weather conditions. Pussy.

Anyway, here are some shots from Sakoshi JHS. I'm going to miss a lot of these kids when they graduate. Not the eagerest bunch on earth, but in between persuading me to smuggle them in dope seeds, they're good kids. I couldn't really ask for much more in an outlying area of a country town, where 90% of the time there isn't even anyone checking tickets at the train station. Score.

The 'bad' kids. They're good kids.

Some of the volleyball club. Real nice girls.
I think a lot of these kids will do something really special one day.
I hope they all can.

They pretend they are cleaning diligently for the photo.
I don't think Tomo on the left has ever wiped the window before in his life.

Staff room. My desk is the clean one in the middle, with the shitty chair.

I surprised her cutting up some coke.

I don't know if you can make out the mullet I am working on.

Nuns in training.

I'm really getting interested in kendo recently.
I don't really understand the rules so well, but basically:
you smack the enemy with a big wooden sword, in either the face, hand, or side.
You don't get any points unless you first tell them where you will hit them, then hit them there, and scream as you are doing it, and stamp your foot effectively.
No joke. It's cool.

And pretty serious. The kids spend time meditating before each training.

For too long, puritanical love-monkeys have been talking ill of one of our little planet's most time-honoured gastronomical past-times. Have YOUR say in reclaiming your right to eat your friends. If god had meant us not to eat human flesh, why did he make it so damn tasty?
