So, what's going on in Japan?
I hear you ask.
Ummm... not much. Since the whole Chinese/Korean textbook riots calmed down, things have been pretty tame as the focus is on domestic politics. Koizumi's bitch is the reform and privatisation of the postal system. Privatising those kinds of companies is always a touchy issue, cf Telstra, and lots of people get pissed off and circulate propaganda showing how people would lose their jobs and if you didnt live in Tokyo you wouldn't get mail any more. I don't really know enough about it, but that's the shit over here at the moment.
The push for UN reform is still on. Japan was a bit shocked when the US declared outright that they werent supporting it. It's like, cheers for being a token non-Western society and attacking Iraq, but we don't care about that now. But don't pull out! We also need your help with uncle Kim Jong Il. I'll tell you what, we'll help you out with the whole abduction issue. Coz, I mean, that could be taken so many ways, you're gonna need all the help you can get. It takes two for an abduction, you know. One to abduct, and one to be abducted. Watch yr step.
Apart from that, just the usual stories:
1. Middle-aged guy kills his parents, saying they nag him too much to stop reading comics and get a fucking job.
2. 4 high school students and 2 adults gas themselves to death in a car.
3. Police fail to apprehend violent criminal / child abuse / domestic violence / litterbug. Still find time to shake down foreigners.
4. Guy in debt kills self, family.
This is Japan!
As for me. On holidays now, passed the level 3 kanji test, my grandmother died, going to Okinawa, need a haircut. See ya.
