Keeping 'em in Cages Proves You're A Man
Have you seen the documentary "March of the Emperor"?Some French guy went to the Penguin Empire, and in return for his offer of pieces of the Korean Peninsula, persuaded them to let him film them stalking the ice for their annual standing around being cold and also getting it on ritual. Breathtaking landscapes and beautiful fidelity, with the harshness of nature at its unbridled best and unexplained customs not hidden in a spiel of civilisationary propaganda. In other, less ridiculous terms, penguins v the ice.
Anyway, we saw it the week before going to Hokkaido, which meant Kana was apeshit to see the new Asahikawa zoo, which features heaps of polar animals wandering around and non-polar animals being caged up. As below.
Although I innately dislike zoos, it was pretty cool to see the penguins walking around and playing in the snow freely. They were completely blase to the gawkers around.
Next stage: the Sapporo Brewery. All-you-can-gorge draft beer and bbq lamb. Gold. Ox, you should be here.
